My silkie cockerel is about 3 1/2 months old. When can I expect him to fertilize an older pullet's eggs?
Thanks!

My silkie cockeral is about 5-6 months old now and he just yesterday tried to breed a girl for the first time. I introduced a few younger boys who seem to be a bit more "mature" than him - it's a case of monkey see monkey do. In this case he has been around an older roo mating and whatnot, but these newer guys are lower status ( pecking order ) than him. Guess he did not want to be left behind, lol. At any rate he's not been successful yet that I know of, but he is starting to try once in awhile. This is my first silkie boy, so I'm not sure if this is normal or the average or what, but figured I would tell you what my experience has been so far. Best wishes!

Thank you! He's my only boy at all and he's young. I was just wondering when the day would come....figured I better come up with a good educational explaination BEFORE the kids see it

Just this morning I saw my suspected roo silkie chasing the girls this morning and trying to jump on their backs. He just turned 11 weeks. He won't be successful for several more weeks but he has started trying.
