Any idea what size legbands silkies need or know of another way to tell them apart?
They take a size 9 according to Stromberg's chart. Other ideas are colored zip ties if you can find enough colors or they sell numbered zip ties too, so you could customize the size for each bird.
I use small zip ties.....worked well on my feather legged birds as the thin bands fit between the leg feathers.
<scratcheshead>I think silkies have feathered legs.
I have 3 black Silkies and cannot tell them apart except for the colored zip tie. But you must check them regularly to ensure that they are not too tight or hurting the chickens. I put mine on loose enough not to rub but tight enough not to slid too far down the foot.Good Luck!
I use the size nine colored bandette legs identification bands. I get them from Strombergs . They seem to be the least expensive. Silkie roosters can sometimes require a larger size than size nine.
