I was startled to realize that my silkie Jethro's chicks turned 6 weeks old yesterday. Though my SFs are also excellent mothers, they usually turn their chicks loose around 4 to 5 weeks old. Jethro shows no signs of wanting to turn her chicks loose, even though they are standards and are rapidly outgrowing her.
On average, how long do silkies usually mother their chicks for?
Also, my other silkie Ellie Mae is over a year old now. She still hasn't gone broody. She doesn't even particularly like chicks.
