I was at pullet til the last close up of the comb... now I’m leaning to cockerel.....how’s the personality? Does it charge the others? Run and hide? Run from you or come to you ?

I’ve found those personality traits say as much as physical signs with silkies

It isn’t the dominant bird in the flock of four. Definitely runs from and hides behind the others. And runs from me. The other girls are just getting to where they will come to me and take pets, they don’t love it but they love treats and I bring those . The silkie is there for the treats but last in and first out. Lots of happy chirps and such but seemingly shy.

I know this isn’t your question , but if you buy blunt nose scissors and trim the fuzz on the cheeks so seeing who’s behind is possible , you might have a less skittish bird.

Also you need to trim the toe nails as they don’t wear them down , and make sure nothings caught in the foot feathers .
Giving the logs with bark and a cement patio stone help but silkies are so light weight that the nails curve under .

Basically silkies need a spa day every few months:)

Thank you I was actually just looking at the face and trying to determine how to trim them. I was looking to google for answers. And what do you trim the nails with. I would think dog clippers would be to big right??

One of your pictures shows it really well!

I buy small blunt nose scissors and nail cutters at my pet store. Amazon has lots too , the video I watched way back when said always hold the scissors against the head so you can not poke the eye ... I do it alone but having someone hold them wrapped in a towel helps the first few times .

Mine are so used to a makeover that o hold them on my lap and trim away :)

Of course mine eat fermented feed by dunking their heads into it! That I just wash out ....

Aren’t they just so fun?

Here’s a picture threw my silkies door last night , ones sitting on an egg underneath ( little stinker)
Have fun
