Silkie Roo?

Hey all,
I was given a young silkie a while back. Being it is my first one not sure on gender. About 6 month old now and Im thinking hes a roo. Today he came at me after picked up a polish he is living with. Also any idea on what variety he is?

Next to my polish roo thats a little younger. They are about the same size.

I believe that he is a cockerel, but silkies are tricky for gender ID.

if 6 mos old and no wattles, streamers, more comb than that.....i’m going to say pullet

He’s marching like a boy lol and bows the time their combs start to look like a weird growth. COCKEREL!!

That is a cockerel. He looks like a blue silkie to me.

Coloring could be splash as well.
I don't see streamers which makes me think pullet. The comb makes me think cockerel. You might just have to wait until there are eggs (or lack thereof).

If it is female I’d say it’s older than the 6 months you were told. It is possible but it’s not that common for a female as young to have such a wide prominent comb.

Some male silkies never get streamers and can look particularly feminine until they’re around 1 year old.

He sure is pretty though!

I agree. I once had a silkie rooster that looked exactly like all of my other hens but he just had a massive comb.
