I know these guys are young for definitive answers.. Im just sort of preplanning on whether to expand an indoor house chicken coop, and sexing will help me figure that out.

Both are 6 weeks as of today. They are from Ideal Poultry, and ive read that they tend to be non-bearded and Crest feathers lean back. Do these look like they will have beards?

The brown i am assuming is partridge and maybe female.. seems more calm, docile, no domineering/chest bumping, and is very small in comparison to the grey/ black one.

The dark one was grey as a 3 day old chick, with just a few hints of black. Do black silkies start off as grey? Or is this new black color going to fade out? Assuming this is a male based on upright positioning, a bit domineering, chest bumping, and much larger.

Ill update with new pics as they get older, but just wanted to hear any initial thoughts! Thank you!! 🤩

They are adorable!
Thanks!! I was remaining very unattached and patient.. but then they decided they liked me this week 😂 my daughter will be doing online elementary this next year, and i told her she could have a silkie as a classmate! Now those crest feathers have me worried i mentioned it!

The one is partridge and the other is either black or blue. You can’t sex silkies until maybe 3-4 months old. Silkie roosters are not quiet.
Yea the black one was an all grey baby. It's been molting, but it still seems to have a mix of grey/ black in the new feathers. I just checked the ideal website, and they do carry blue silkies.. and the chick pic color looks most like mine did. Cool, thanks! I didn't even realize it might be that color.

They are 6 weeks now, so hopefully i can tell in another 6 weeks.. i really don't see any raised comb at all, just a pretty flat V. The dark one screams when it cant find the other chicks. Someone suggested that particular behavior is not something roosters do, so crossing my fingers i get one female out of the two silkies! Thanks again for your response!

Partridge, & black.
Both seem to be cockerel with their raised combs.

He's the same age as yours. I sold him yesterday.
Wow!! Okay i can see the difference then!! Is that typical of that age, that the comb is that noticeable? Do you mean you think my two are both cockerel?

I thought the combs looked kind of flat, but i dont have any other silkies to compare with.. the keratin has come off those top feathers and they are still looking spiky. 😬
