I am sure this is a boy. He has already made a sad attempt at crowing. What color is he considered though?

I can only see the first one clearly, he looks like a buff/black mix. The other pictures aren't clear, I'd say they're blacks though. Either way, nice looking birds.

I think you're pretty close with your guesses. Males usually have a slicked back look with their crests and the females' are rounded and cute.
