I am a first time chicken owner and new to all of this. I have been doing tons of research on different breeds and I really like Silkies! They are sooo cute, but I was wondering if they make good pets and if whether or not they are flighty. I would prefer not to keep them caged... Also, I was wondering how big they can get and if they can be kept with different breeds such as Buff Orpington's?...

Oh, no! You wouldn't want a Silkie for a pet! They're evil, I tell you, EVIL! Featherdusters with beaks. Once they have you under their spell, you're doomed , I tell you, D*O*O*M*E*D!

Seriously, many have Silkies with standard breeds. They are mild mannered and extremely broody types, but you cant see their eyes... scary!

Silkies are great little chickens.

They can't fly - don't have the right type of feathers. They TEND to be very friendly, calm little birds, and interact with people better than a lot of other breeds.

They end up about 1/2 the size of your typical standard breed chicken.

I love my silkies.

(yes, their evil plot to take over my home has worked)
