I have 4 straight-run silkies that are about 4-5 weeks old and I'm wondering when I can start telling if they're male or female and what to look for. These are my first silkies.

It's still pretty early to tell at that age.

But you're looking at the comb... males will have a more prominent comb, and the crest will spike up a little more. There's also the carriage, but I usually can't really tell until 8-10 weeks or more.

They are tricky!

We tried to tell our apart at 8 weeks and I was told my roo was a pullet and vise versa. Turns out at 10-11weeks a huge comb popped up on what was supposed to be my pullet. Needless to say, my Rooster is named Pinky!

You may want to wait, but it wouldn't hurt to post some pictures. Preferrably close up on mostly of the face and comb.
