I purchased 3 silkies as day old chicks, ended up with 2 roosters and 1 pullet. I knew I could not have 2 roosters and only 1 hen, so I re-homed one rooster. Now I am wondering if it is ok to have just 1 rooster and 1 hen. They are approximately 3 months old now.

They will probably be fine. But in case of overbreeding, you can put a hen saddle on her or get more hens.

The recommended rooster to hen ratio is 1 : 8 or 1 : 10, something like that. But I have found that chickens are individuals and if you have a really nice roo he'll treat his hen nicely when they are by themselves.

I spoke with one silkie breeder who puts 5 hens in with one roo to prevent overbreeding.
