Walking into the coop today I discovered that instead of the (not unusual) 2 hens in the box, there was literally a waiting line. (larger images here )
2 in the box, one on the edge - a Buff Orpington, a Barred Rock and the Maran.
The Australorpe is at the doorway, apparently blocking the entrance so she makes sure she gets the box next.
Now it's not like we didn't provide enough boxes for our flock - they just refuse to use the other ones! There is plenty of space in the box next to them, as well as the hidy-hole behind the sloped piece of siding above.
Total chaos. Moments later the Maran decided to stop waiting, plopped herself in the midst of everyone and starts pecking at the Barred Rock telling her to get the heck out!
