Her are some new pictures of our sweet SLW chick, "Lacey". I had someone tell me when she was almost 4 weeks old that she looked like a HE! I'm really hoping (and praying) that she's a pullet! We can't keep roosters, and I want to keep this sweet, friendly chick. I'd love to hear your thoughts and opinions. Thanks!

Yes, unfortunately, that does look like a rooster. Sorry!

Yeah, normally I'd reserve judgement on a 'dotte, but that's pretty male.

Can I ask what you are able to tell from? Is it just the redness in the comb and waddle?

For the age-that's alot of comb/waddle development. One thing that does look more like what the pullets have is, the white around the neck-males will usually have black there-but if it's a hatchery bird, anything can happen. Also look for overall feather patterns-if they are pretty similar all over the bird(look the same), better odds it's a girl. Wait a little more to be sure.

PeakyBeaky, thanks for the great information. I will hold onto this little chick until we know for sure. It did come from Dunlap Hatchery in Caldwell Idaho.

I'm also wondering if anyone else has SL Wynadotte pictures from various ages, or specifically this age - 6 weeks, for comparison?

These pics are of my two roos at 7 weeks old. The one on the left is a SLW "Chick Woman" :) on the right is a GLW "Duck" It wasn't too long after this that he started in with some very pathetic, and adorable, crowing. [IMG]
