I'm pretty new to chicken raising. This is Charlie. Charlie is a 5 week old Silver Laced Polish. How or when are you able to start telling if it is a male or female??[IMG]

While im no expert on Polish, as the head-crest begins to grow in it gets pretty obvious, do you have any close ups of Charlie's face by chance?

This is the best that I could get. Charlie isn't one to stay still. I just noticed some red on the waddles and was going to start freaking out thinking thos weren't there earlier, but they all just got done eating strawberries!!!!! Lol so the little red that you see is from that I double checked!!

It kinda resembles a boy with the way the crest is coming to shape but I wouldn't give up, there is a good chance it could still be a hen.
What shape are the neck feathers? Rounded, square or pointed?

They look to be rounded, suggesting hen but like I said I wouldn't give up because that crest is the most crazy thing on these birds, its so hard to tell.
I got some silkie (hard to sex) and cochin (easy to sex) and I got 2 boys, both with rounded neck feathers but with big combs, since you cant really comb sex polish I would say wait a few weeks until it develops more. Really adorable, I hope its a hen ^^
