I was checking my birds last night. They had already gone to roost.
While I was looking them over I heard a couple of them singing. A soft sweet sound. Several had their eyes closed and the Rooster was at attention but all was quiet except the choir. Is this a sign of happy birds. It was really peaceful.

It is very peaceful sounding isn't it?
I have two hens that have been serenading the flock since they were little itty bitty things. I love to hear it.

They are singing the come sleep with me song. It's the noise chickens make when it's time to go roost. My chicks started doing it around 3-5 weeks. Even when they got their big girl voices, they still kept singing the good night lullaby.

Yes, we have a hen named Singer, for this exact reason!

She is a very strong willed girl, and refused to live in the coop with the other chickens, until the cold weather hit that is. She, by her own choice, not ours, has free ranged all year. She does fly back into the run at night to go roost with the others, but each morning she's back out.

We always know where she is because we can hear her song all through the yard, no matter what part of the yard she is in.
