Sinus (previously infected) seems to be filled with dirt

Lucy battled an ecoli infection in her eye for a couple of months and now we're treating the left over inflammation. Yesterday the are above her eye which has been swollen for quite some time now looked dark to me. Upon further inspection it seemed that there was a pocket of dark "stuff" under a layer of eye material. Her nostril also seemed to be gunked up with dried dirt. I am hesitant to go back to the vet due to the already enormous bill and would like to learn how to treat her on my own. Yesterday was the first time that her eye seemed to be painful. I tried icing the eye, don't know if it helped but it was certainly entertaining. Anyone ever treated a chicken sinus?

i bought some med.at attwoods here where i live called vet r x it smelled like vicks and you can give it straight and put on there nose and it says to put some under the wing.try some
