One of my hens went broody on July 3. Slowly but surely her sisters joined her until there were five hens. They laid 17 eggs total,. They have been sitting all together very closely and sharing the 17 eggs. On July 25th, 3 eggs hatched. The next day, two more hatched. Today, one hatched. The hens are caring for the babies and some are still sitting on the 11 unhatched eggs.

My question is, will the rest of the eggs hatch? Since they laid the eggs on different dates, does that mean a staggered hatch as well?

    Thanks!

    On the MN prairie.
Yes, that is a staggered hatch. With so many sitting, maybe some will stay until they're all hatched, The other thing that could happen is, when they decided to take the hatched babies off the nest, they'll abandon the rest and they'll die. Only time will tell, I guess.

This morning I have one more chick that hatched and a peeping egg with a hole (pipping?). That will bring my chick total to eight. Nine eggs are left. It's been a fun experience.
