I have an assortment of mostly lighter breeds, the heaviest being my Easter Eggers and the lightest are my OEGBs. Most are 3-4 pounds ( Hamburgs, Buttercups, Fayoumis, Silver Leghorns). I've been watching them roost at night on their upended 2x4 roosts and it doesn't seem like their comfortable. In fact, I have problems with them piling up in the four nest boxes on either end of the two roosts.
I'm wondering if they would prefer a flatter roost or perhaps a round bar? In the past, I've always offered a pole and a couple of shelves for roosting but this new coop wasn't built designed the same way. This is also different assortment of breeds than I've had before, except for the OEGBs.
I don't need to worry about keeping their feet warm since I live in Phoenix. The chickens are all around 8-12 weeks of age, depending on which hatch they are from.
