slaughter age

    Hi All,

    I have an excess of roosters. ! australorp and 2 EE's that will be making their way to freezer camp. What is a good age to process them? I would like to maximize size, but also manage any behavioral issues that may arise from having 5 roosters with only 14 hens. I also don't want to keep feeding them for too long after they reach adult size.

    Most folks process their barnyard birds at around 18 weeks.

    Yep, 18-20 weeks is generally considered the tipping point between gaining weight and then costing more to feed to maintain that weight.
