I have two wyandottes that are the same age - - 6 months.
Despite being the same age, the Silver Laced is bigger than the Gold Laced.

I am wondering if these birds are good enough to show? Please, tell me what is right and what is wrong with them so that I can learn what to look for.

Thanks,

I'm no Wyandotte expert, but to me they look like the better examples of my Hatchery-Stock Wyandottes. . . Their lacing is not exactly correct, in that it is still "pointed," their bodies still have that round rump ending with a pointy, erect tail problem that hatcheries throw, and feathering around their thighs and bottom fluff isn't quite enough. They need to be round, plump, and "open up" in the rear with a lot of lacing and feathering.

They're better than the average hatchery-stock, yes, but not great.

Well, I see the pointy bad thing with the tail on my SLW. My GLW has a less point tail but she is no where near as big as that SLW.

To me the feather in the front seems funny. It reminds me of the sagging skin a woman is left with after she has lost alot of weight. Not a funny visual - - - but true !
Maybe it would not seem so saggy if they were fuller.

The lace pattern - - - if anybody has some pics of good feathering - - I would welcome you posting them in this thread so that I can compare and contrast to these girls.

here are 2 of our hens that I would put in a show. The tail on your hen is pinched and the body isnot wide at all. Your lacing is better than a lot of others I have seen
posted.

Judging by the previous pictures - - - my girls have too long of necks and their bodies are too much like a rectangle. It looks like they should be more squarish - - - Am I getting this right?

Also, I need help with how to judge the lacing. Where are the faults on the lacing - - -please try to explain again.
Where is the "pointy lace" issue at? Is it on the chest, the wing, or all over. Help me focus my attention to the fault so that I can see it.

Thanks

The "pointy lace" issue is all over, but you can mainly see it in the chest. (in the Gold Laced one. . . The Silver Laced isn't all that bad) The lacing should be perfectly round looking, whilist in your bird and even my own Wyandottes, the lacing is pointed - Instead of edging around the feather, it allows for a triangular shape of white in the center of the feather. The more or less lacing a bird has, the more you can see this. I find that with my own hatchery stock, the "pointed lacing," when too little, can turn into a simple "triangle" of black at the tip of the feather, and when too much - can turn into just a triangle of white on the inner feather.

The main thing that is really wrong with your Wyandottes though is the tail and rear - It has a common hatchery body, where the rear closes up into a round shape, then ends with a thin little tail. A Wyandotte should have a very "open" rear, where all the feathers poof out. In general the body shape should be like a wedge.

Here's what I mean by pointed lacing: (notice the chest, where instead of a rounded feather appearance, it tips off in the shape of a triangle)

I definitely see the triangles now

Also, I see the fluffier back / tail area - I think.
It looks neither of my birds are even close to having to back / tail fluff thing right.

This has helped me out a lot - - - Thanks Illia and Mrs. Turbo
