I was wondering how many snakes you guys run in to while raising your chickens? We have our fair share of snakes here in NC, but I'm sure I'll run into more than my share while raising these birds. It's not going to be that bad, right????

We had garter snakes. The chickens ate them all.

I used to see more snakes when I had my flock in Florida then I have since moving to Wyoming. Which is fine because the only snakes I've seen so far in WY are rattlesnakes.

You might ask the members on your state thread and they can probably give you the low down.

Usually the only snakes I have to deal with are black snakes. We like to keep them around though, so I simply just pick them up and move away from the chicken enclosure. It's not so bad once you get used to it lol.

I'm shuddering at the thought of snakes! I guess I'm quite lucky up north and in a valley in the middle of the wheatfields. All the snakes are mainly in the foothills!
Except for the ones I haven't met on my farm over the last 20 years!
I don't envy you one bit.
Going to be interesting reading everyone's replies!

I usually pull 3 or 4 rat snakes out of the nest box over a spring/summer/fall. They're quite docile. I just pick them up and take them to the edge of the yard/woods or let them go in the brush pile. I'd rather have them around than worry about the few eggs they get.

Eeek... I'm with N F C. We get rattle snakes here too. Usually only seen in the mountain range. Thank goodness. Good luck! And, WELCOME!

Check your nest boxes, and have snake proof brooders.
