I have a total of 7 pheasants, 1 rooster and 3 hens in one pen, and in another pen I have 1 rooster and 2 hens. Combined the 2 pens are about 1,000 SF (25x35). I have a few things in there for cover (old pet carriers), plus a fair amount of plants, etc. They seem to do fine, and I see few issues between them. No fighting, etc.

We're here in Washington State and the days are getting longer. Any idea when I can expect mating and laying? I'm also considering trying to hatch out as many eggs as I can in the bator. Any estimate on the number of eggs I can expect from 5 hens?

    Thanks

I know naught about pheasants but I also am wondering when they will start procreating. I know they typically breed in the summer, but who knows maybe they will start sooner if the conditions are right!

My male is starting to exhibit interest in his lady, but she wont give him the time of day!

I live in michigan, my roosters are already crowing, and my hens usually start laying in march along with the elliots.

do you suppose temperature plays any role in when they start breeding, or has it more to do with length of day?

Mine Have Been Laying For A Few Weeks Now, Albeit At A Low Slow Rate, But Laying Nonetheless. Now I Am In A Subtropical Climate So As Far As When They Will Lay On The Opposite Corner Of The Nation? I'd Say Late April Or Early May But Thats Purely Speculation For Me As I Am Unfamiliar With Their Performance Up There. Here I Average 60+ Eggs/ Hen Per Season Easily And My Laying Season Is Oftem Twice That Of Other Parts Of The Country

Nifty, the weather is pretty fair here, but my chickens output is mediocre at best, so I don't have a lot of hope for my pheasants.

In their own time I guess!

Here in Illinois mine usually start laying in March - early March if weather is good, mid March if bad.
