Had my first egg from my leghorn yesterday. She has just laid another at 5pm today. But the shell was very soft. It wasn't hard at all. Is this down to calcium deficiency or just because she is new to laying. She is down the pecking order but there is always a feeder of layers pellets available. Can you help

It's just a glitch often seen in new layers, she basically laid the egg before it was ready to come out. The new sensations I think often stress them out so things get rushed. It should all straighten out as she gets going more.

Sorry it's late but she will be fine. This is usually from lack in calcium. We have had a couple of older hens do this, they are all fine, and happy. So your hen should be too
