I've seen this before, [IMG] on my internet wanderings, and the same problem I thought of then still holds. [IMG] Anywhere where your temperatures get below freezing, the water could freeze and break the bottle. [IMG] [IMG] Anything you'd put in to prevent freezing (antifreeze) would be toxic. [IMG] so a spill or other accident could be catastrophic. [IMG]

If you heat your coop, or are lucky enough to be where temps are mild in the winter, the freezing wouldn't be much of an issue, though. [IMG]

I'm still considering how to get around the problems, though, [IMG] at least for a particular storage shed we have...

Salt would keep it from freezing.

Wouldn't vodka keep it from freezing too?

Why would freezing be a problem? I fill all the empty space in my chest freezer with the same soda bottles. I Just leave a little airspace for expansion.

I don't know that it would be all that much of a problem for us down here in the south. I imagine that there might be problems with the plastic freezing and cracking up in some of those places where the temps drop below zero. I don't know though. None of my coops are big enough to need it. I just thought it was a fascinating solution to a problem. [IMG]
