Is there another way to keep the coop's waterer from freezing in the winter, if there's no access to electricity? Is there maybe a solar heater out there somewhere? Or another creative way?

I don't know of any in a coop. If you have a sunny spot in the run, you can get a black rubber dish and use that. Stomp the ice out in the morning and fill it with water. It depends on how much sun it gets and how cold it gets, but this will work to extend the time water is available when the sun is shining.

I was going to ask the same question. I am also looking for a waterer that won't split/break from freezing, I think the double wall galvanized founts will freeze up and possibly split, and I am pretty sure the plastic hanging waterer will split too. If I do 5 gallon bucket fountain setup, how long will it stay thawed if it's say... 10 degrees F? ) 0 F?

Water heater base is not an option.
