I have a 16 month old Sebright Bantam Hen that crows. [IMG]

She lays small white eggs, so I know she's a girl, but I have to stop her crowing!
I live in town and her crowing is driving me crazy. I don't want my neighbors to report the crowing as a nuisance.

She isn't the top chicken in the flock - she's 2nd from the bottom in rank.
She IS the smallest chicken in the flock.
    I don't have a roo.
I've caught her trying to fight/spar with the other hens. She hops up and tries to scratch them with her feet.

    Any ideas?

Can I change her behavior? OR Will I have to find a new home for her?

My Antwerp, Vera, sounds just like yours! She has settled down now that it's cold and she isn't laying eggs. But, there for awhile we were really at wits end!

My sussex is really loud, too. I don't know how to stop her, but she mainly does it to get my attention. For example, she mainly does it when she's mad that she's still in the coop and the door hasn't been opened up in the morning.... little brat knows how to get me moving! ha!

If your hen is crowing, (real crowing, just like a roo, not just being loud) it's not a behavior problem, it's a hormone problem. Hens don't just "decide" to crow. They respond to a hormonal trigger. This can be caused by specific health disorders. Here's a link:

If you google "crowing hens" you'll find more info on this subject. Good luck with your hen!

    Oooo-kay....

    Thanks for the info dancingbear.

Does anyone think she looks like a male Sebright?

She does a caa-caa-kaooo sound. Like a real rooster gargling. Poor Pippa she's so cute, but so confused.
