If they are five acres away your ducks will probably not go that far especially if you raise them as ducklings at your house so they know where "home" is. My ducks stay on not even an acre of land and dont wander into my neighbors yard which is right up againt mine with nothing separating the properties.

And ducks can be very tame when handled A LOT. Just like a cat.. if you tend to handle them more as kittens they are more friendlier as adults.

There are some breeds that tend to be a bit more "skittish" then others. My sebbie goose Is the best! He doesnt care to be picked up but he loves comming over to me and "yelling" at me to get my attention LOL. I do have a muscovie that was given to me from a kid who lived in town.... but the duck is very friendly she will pick at your feet to be petted.. lol!
