My flock has been with me just a couple of weeks. I love watching them and have observed some really interesting things. First, I am sure the Americauna and the Buff Orpington became BFF's immediately. I got them at separate times from a feed store, where I just bet they were together as chicks in their brooder. The 2 youngsters, male and female black copper marans picked on the americauna at first, but when I got the Buff and the two started hanging around together, that stopped. You can see that the buff and the americauna are together on the roost.

My Silkie, who I got from a gal who raised her from a chick as a pet, sleeps in the nest box. I hope she will eventually roost with the rest of the flock.

I got that Polish from the same gal. She seems to be very bossy and aggressive, although she has lightened up a bit in the past week.

The barred rock just reminds me of a mother hen, keeping them all in line.

Here are a couple of pictures just for giggles.

PS: I would sure like to get some eggs! Patience.

They are all very pretty!!! Isn't it fun to just watch them and how they act with each other?? I love just hanging out with them. I often wonder how they choose their buddies. I have some that are inseparable and become nervous if they can't find their buddy right away. But have such gorgeous chickens!

Nice looking "variety pack". [IMG] Isn't it fun watching the social structure of your birds? We should start a video thread here titled, "As the Coop Turns" or "All My Chickens". [IMG]

    campochick:

The buff and the ameracauna are about 19 weeks

    Barred rock is 6 months

Silkie is a year (she has layed of course, just not for me yet!)

Polish is 4 or 5 months

Marans are getting close to 4 months I think

tinychicky : Thank you! I like having a little bit of variety.
