What do I do? I have to find out what to do if I broke the membrane ( if I broke it) upon helping my abandoned chicks out of the egg. I thought they were goners as she had left them for 2 days to tend to the hatchlings..... I brought them in, warmed them up and peeked inside... I only successfully got one 1/2 way out and he seems fine but I'm afraid to do more with the others. They may not be Mamma's eggs, therefore they are not due to hatch. No way of knowing and it may be too late if I screwed it up. I see movement in all 4, have them under a heat lamp, 98 degrees... that's all I know.

No I don't have an incubator... that's most of the problem.

If you can keep the temp up and you live in a humid area, they might hatch. I'm actually incubating without water ecause the humidity in my house is usually around 50%...which is what you need for the first 17 days. It sounds like they are close to hatch? Good luck...

If the humidity is to low, I wonder if you set them on a damp rag if they would hatch? It might be worth a try. I was just thinking what I would do in this situation! Good luck, and post pictures WHEN(not if) they hatch!!

Do a search someone did a cardboard incubator -

I HAVE HATCHED CHICKS WITH AN CANDY THEMONITER AND A HEAT LAMP AND DAMP WASH CLOTHES . I WOULD PUT THE DAMP CLOTHES AROUND THE EGGS A FEW TIMES A DAY WATCH THE TEMP AND PRAY!! IT WORKED.
