My dad has an ameraucana hen that is about 2 years old and has developed a large mass right below the breast that is poking out externally, is hard to the touch and has a very FOUL smell. Any input to what this could be would be very much appreciated. [IMG]

She may have a impacted crop or a sour crop since it has a foul smell im guessing her crop is clogged.Just give her a little yogort and you should take her to the vet. The vet will suck the stuff out of her crop and they may give you some pills for her to take.[IMG]

It looks like she is clogged with poop. Give her a Epsom salt bath and wash the spot.

That is the strangest thing I have seen. It looks like poop, but why it's coming out the side of her body is scary. I would do what hens rule said. Soak it in warm water and wash it and see if you can uncover it. Also, check her vent and make sure it isn't plugged. I can tell you that mass is not her crop.

It could very well be just a huge mass of poop. How it got there is the mystery. I've had some roosters that if you don't check them periodically can just accumulate a mass of poop on their vent feathers and end up blocking them if you don't clear it off. Finding that in the summer in warm weather with flies is pretty nasty.
