Hi there. I just got a chicken coop and next week will be calling to have a county health inspector to come out and give me the go ahead. I am wanting four chickens and cannot decide if I should have 4 different breeds or get 4 of the same. I really love the look of wyanndotte chickens and the all white leghorn types. Any suggestions on what breeds are dual purpose and get along with others?

I like the mix. I like having the eye candy in the yard, and, some good egg layers. Wyondottes are very pretty...will go broody.
I like a bantam out in the yard in the summer.
I love the leghorn for eggs..and any of the sex links..the red being my favorite. :)
I also love having an EE out there for the blue/green eggs.

Hi and welcome to BYC. Like the other members here, i would suggest getting a variety - that way you will learn what breeds suit you. Leghorns are a not dual purpose birds, and from what i understand, tend to be a bit flighty. I'd suggest checking out the Breeds section here to help you identify suitable breeds.
