My chicken has a sore foot with a growth around the base of its (thomb?) Toe . Advice please !
How long has the growth been there? Was she vaccinated for Mareks disease, and was she every injured or pecked there. Mareks disease can cause tumors in chickens. Has she ever had bumblefoot in that foot? Another possible cause would be mycoplasma synovitis, which is an infection in the bones and joints.
That looks terrible. What does the growth feel like? I suppose some sort of infection or disease could cause it; I've never seen something like this before, though.
Among the things mentioned here, that could be a fungal infection. Possibly it started from a wound and a fungus or even a virus took hold and grew into a tumor like mass. Even could be similar to warts which are caused from a virus.
If you have it removed or find out the cause, please post back here to let us know. That is interesting. Does it cause much pain? Is there anything on the bottom of the foot such as a bumblefoot spot?
