I have hen who I believe has sour crop. Her crop was very squishy tonight. My husband and I made her vomit and a bunch of fluid came out, some feed, some bugs, but it didn't smell particularly bad. Anyhow, gave her some yogurt, and she has apple cider vinegar in her water. What else should I do? She's in our chicken hospital, which has been used more in the last week than ever. Sheesh.

Thank you. That's a great article. Her cropped filled back up with water again. We were able to get it to go down slightly through massage. We have pulled her water for the night. She has a bit of yogurt in there and that's it. Fingers crossed we caught it early and her crop is less full in the morning.

Good morning!

Soooooo... Her crop was totally empty this morning, which is awesome. She's going to get a small amount of water, a scrambled egg and yogurt. I'm not convinced this is sour crop. Maybe I was a bit quick to diagnose. Is there anything else that would make her crop feel like a water balloon?

This hen has been laying soft eggs off and on for a while. She laid a soft one yesterday and frankly, she was struggling to get it out, although she did. She's also very thin. I do think her slow crop issue is probably a result of something bigger. She's been wormed and treated for cocci a month ago.

What does she eat?
Do you offer her chicken feed or does she only free range for food?
Does she get a side order of calcium (oyster shells)?
How old is she?
