Hermosa, South Dakota
Hi anyone out there from South Dakota?

I live between Hermosa and Custer, up in the Black Hills.
I have 16 free range pullets - 3 RIRs, 3 Orpingtons, 2 Barred Rock, 3 EEs, 2 Gold Stars, a Delaware, an Astrolorp and a Lace Wyandotte. I started in August and love my gals. I had a few more, but lost them to mountain lions. :(

I have been thinking about getting some chicks in the early spring.
Any suggestions?

thanks
Mark

Hey, fellow South Dakotan! We live up near Newell, SD - just a little north of the Belle Fourche river - and are working toward setting up for some chickens. Where did you get yours? I would like to get some Barred Rocks, Orpingtons, and Wyandottes. Would like to get them as locally as possible. Any suggestions? I hope you did not lose any more of your girls to predators!

Piedmont!I have 5 barred rocks and they are doing great. My mom has about 20 of rocks, ri reds, jersey giants and a few more in Whitewood. Keep your coops dry and draft-free and your chickens will do fine.
