Hello and welcome to BYC. You are going to have a very colorful flock as well as a beautiful egg basket. The chick pictures are adorable; I love the one where your daughter has a chick on her shoulder most of all!

Welcome to BYC!!Hi there from Alaska!
I’m completely new to raising Chickens.
Currently raising 17 chicks:
1 Brahma
1 Brahma/Australorp
5 lavender Orpingtons
5 Buff Orpingtons
5 Black Australorps
Rearranging with friends soon to own 2 of each of the orpingtons and Australorps and adding:
2 Americanas
2 Prairie Bluebells
1 Blue Laced Red Wyandottes
1 midnight Majesty Maren
For a total of 14.
My kiddos (16,13, &10 all girls) are loving it right now. I really looking forward to starting this journey for egg production and experience is raising farm animals.
I’m a dog groomer of over 20 years, not afraid of some dirtiness and poop.
We have 3 standard poodles, 2 cats, and 1 beta fish currently.
With all that said, I’m looking for some insight on
1) insulate or not to insulate? Live on the peninsula, not super windy but can get to -20 in winters. Lots of snow this last year!
2) roasting bars staggered? Planning 2-7’ bars
3) can’t get coffee grounds, allergic to pine shavings, currently using hemp and love it except they keep stepping in their poop and it’s getting stuck to their feet. Normal expectation?
Pics of coop progress and my cuties.
