Hi all!
I'm Michelle and have FINALLY created my BYC account after lurking around for a couple of years.
(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
Got our day-old chicks on June 17 this year!
(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
Currently have 7 chickens. We ordered 8 from our local hatchery (Abendroth's) but one only lived for about a day and a half.
(3) What breeds do you have?
Asian Black, Brown Leghorn, Barred Rock, Cuckoo Maran, California White, Easter Egger, ISA Brown, and Cinnamon Queen.
(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?
They are my girls, my babies, my snuggle buddies. I can sit with them for hours and just watch them go about their business. I love when they sleep on me. I'll read, or nap, or just watch them.
(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
I like to knit, crochet, paper crafts, watch TV/movies (current favorite shows are Escape to the Chateau, British Baking Show, The Good Fight, Frankie Drake Mysteries, and Finding Your Roots)
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
I'm married with 2 kids - age 18 and 13. We homeschool, have 2 cats, and are lucky to be able to safely isolate in our rural subdivision this year. My husband works from home as a web developer, and I do a lot of volunteer work and freelance graphic design.
(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community?
I've relied on BYC for answers to a lot of questions as we designed and built our coop and run, and chose our chicken breeds, and now as we're raising them. I'm trying to identify which chicken is which breed now, so I finally joined so I can post my pics and questions.
