Hey everyone. I wanted to engage you in a very interesting, but important discussion.

Most of America’s populace think it improper to spank children. The other day I was talking to one of my friends from www.BackYardChickens.com about methods used to discipline children.

We talked about ‘time outs’, grounding, holding back ‘rewards’ until the child displayed desired behavior, etc. One of the things we discussed was the act of spanking, and my friend explained that no, he does not spank any of his children.

He explained that what he does is to take the misbehaving child out for a ride in the car and talk. He said that usually this works and that the child calms down fairly quickly and it really doesn’t take too much time.

By removing the child, in this case his son, from the immediate situation and providing a change of scenery, the child is allowed to focus on something different. Once the child has the opportunity to change perspective, things get better quickly and the child has better understanding of his place within the family and begins to understand the family’s concept of acceptable behavior.

He kindly shared a picture of the process which I share with you now.

It is very important that you understand that BYC does not condone spanking and that the process mentioned above and viewed below may be much more effective.

Of course, this process isn't as "easy" as spanking, but the point is that the child is given an opportunity to think about what they have done during the car ride.

Please make sure you share this important and improved discipline method with everyone you know.

If you have any questions about the method, please continue the discussion below.

Here is the image that shows the process:

What a wonderful idea! I wonder if I get some of my student's parents to prescribe to that form of punishment?

OH, Rob this is wonderful, wish I had used this method instead of spanking!!! Yes, I believe in spanking. Not abuse but spanking. Of course, this "car ride" is much better. Love it!!

Hey Nifty, I'd be careful there. Ya never know what the PC Police might do. I can see the wheels turning even now. Somebody somewhere is trying to put together a law to make it illegal just to send a joke like that - or to even have such a thought!

Btw, I went through an outstanding course called "Growing Kids God's Way" that was just flat outright terrific and very effective. Although I can't remember seeing anything like this in it. Talk about effective!!

I wonder if that'll work on my stepson [IMG]? At 16 he'd probably think it's a hoot. [IMG]
