We have a polish pullet that seems " special" she stays in the coop unless we get her out, she seems like she has vision problems and isn't as active in the yard as the rest. She is very timid but has caught the hearts of my wife and I. Does anyone know of any other cases?

[IMG] If she has a large crest on her head, that is the source of vision problems. Silkies have the same thing and people think they are "slow" when it's caused by obscured vision.

You could try to carefully cut back some of the feathers around the eyes and face .

[I had to trim the crests of two silkies and two Polish, a hen and a rooster of each. Their personalities blossomed because they could SEE!

Sadly, the Polish rooster suffered feather picking of his crest when his sight was obscured, had to be brought inside three times and put back out when he recovered. Then it happened again, so I just made him a House Rooster. He had been pecked pretty badly, so he WAS "simple" and he died when he was about a year old.

So, yes, trim the feathers away from her eyes. She will find food more easily as well as be able to see the other chickens around her, so she might feel less fearful.
