Speckled Sussex for red/gold sex link crosses

Hey friends, we lost our big gold rooster yesterdy. He was really old and has been a great rooster.

Anyway, I have a speckled sussex rooster coming soon hopefully. We were going to try out our old rooster over barred rock or SLW hens to try our own sex links. Would a Speckled Sussex work for the red/gold side of the equation for sex linked chicks?

If you're using barred hens, the rooster only has to be non barred and non white so you should be fine. Not sure about the SLW hens, but i think you should be fine as far as i'm aware the red in all breeds is gold based, but i could be wrong so hopefully someone else with more knowledge will be along soon.

the barred hen won’t give you red/gold sex links... but might give you black sex links...

Edit: the SLW will give red sex links that looks like illustration 2 in the following link
