Updated pictures of my sussex girls (please say they are all girls). Their breed was up in the air for awhile but sussex has been named their breeds.

#1 - sweet, small, no tail feathers yet and almost 2 weeks.

#2 - feathered out differently and has tail feathers coming in

#3 - feathered out just like #2, including tail feathers

That would be a good guess. I'm not sure if SS's are a breed that can be feather sexed. Personally, they are too young to tell.

    greenfamilyfarms...

At what age can you tell the sex of chickens? Also, at what age does the comb turn red on roosters?

    THANKS!

It's so easy though!! I am 99.9 % sure on my guess!

Well, my boy is the smallest of the group (they are all the same age). He's constantly napping and not very brave. The girls pick on him... most likely chicken nagging. He definitely doesn't wear the pants in that coop.

I have a lazy male UGH!

    3 week pictures
Chick #1 - Smallest one. Last to feather out. Not very brave but will sit in my hand once I get him.

Chick #2 My alarm clock... everything startles her! Very sweet once I get her... then she will sit in my hands forever.

Chick #3 - she is my shy one. Last one to come to me and eat out of my hand... but it takes awhile. Has smaller spots than #2, and the spots are white.

Still hoping #1 is a girl but I know he's not LOL. Hopefully I can re-home these guys soon.

I have found it difficult to sex my SS until they are about 3-4months old. Some of the pullets feather slow and some fast, and the same goes for the roos. Granted I have hatchery chicks, but I don't think that matters as far as whether they can be feather sex or not. I'd love to see how they feather out.
