Speckled Sussex sounds like she’s “knocking on the door”???!!

My husband and I were at the coop, feeding and petting all the chickens. I thought he was tapping on the wood, like knocking on a door, three rapid taps. He said he wasn’t. We realized one of our Speckled Sussex was making the noise! I’ve tried to research it, but can’t find anything. The only way I can describe it is knocking, thumping or drumming. It’s not continuous. Seems to be about 3 knocks, in the normal cadence of a person knocking on a door! Crazy! Does anyone know what it means?

I don't know what is going on with your Sussex, but I will say my Brahma sounds similarly when she's broody.

Hopefully the mystery has been solved. My Speckled Sussex hens have always been the nosy follow you everywhere scream at the gate when you leave type birds, more dog than chicken, I think. Very smart girls.
