I have 4 speckled sussex "pullets" approx 3 to 4 weeks old. Is it easy to differentiate between sexes at this age? 3 look identical, and the 4th doesn't have tailfeathers.

They won't be any easier to sex at this age than any other average breed. You can guess based on comb size and personality and foot size but it's not much more than a guess at four weeks. The only additional feature to judge by might be the Spangling; cockerels seem to show more white Spangling on the chest at a younger age.

Is it possible the missing tail feathers are due to feather picking? This doesn't usually occur in birds this young without severe crowding but it is a possibility.

bird in question is on the right. I would say, based on personality it is a rooster, but I know females can also be rowdy, haha. sorry for horrible picture.

It does have a bit of a large comb. I'd keep an eye on it as it grows, but it's far too young to be sure.

No real opinion on this, but we have 6 chicks, including 2 speckled Sussex, and 1 of the SS also has no tail feathers.
