Speckled Sussex

    I also have 6, 6 week old hatchery Speckled Sussex. Again paid extra for pullets

    In this picture, the one standing has a very short tail and well looks very roo-ish. The one sitting in the front has a longer tail and seems to look more pullet

    Judging by the comb (smaller than the hen like chicken) I would say it is a pullet. Could it be that the tail feathers have been pecked? I'm no expert but hopefully giving you hope!

    Hi, thanks for the reply. I do agree that the comb is small and by golly yes the ones with the short tails are also missing back feathers and that did cross my mind too. But they have larger legs and more upright too <sigh>

    With Speackled Sussex sometimes its so hard to tell.......

    Just my guess, but it looks rooish to me, plus the pattern of feathers resemble how roos have them (only speckled on the breast area).
