My 7 month hen has been laying for a month now. Alll of her eggs have been dark(sort of red/ brownish).every egg shes laid has some sort of speckel pattern (slightly darker in color) all over the eggs . Is this normal ?

I have a BC Marans that lays dark brown eggs and many times they have small darker dots, and a EE that lays a pink egg that is darker pink at the pointed end and fades to a lighter shade at the air cell end and every egg has dark pink speckles at the pointed end. I don't know why this happens but it appears pretty normal.....

Oh what a pretty egg! I think having speckles on eggs is something unique to every hen and makes them stand out. I love seeing all the different varieties that my hens lay.

Sometimes my eggs have spots on them and when I clean them with a vegetable brush I can brush them off. Im not "scrubbing" the egg im getting dirt and poo and stuff thats not supposed to b on an egg.

I just consider speckles a bonus. I have a Welsummer who lays medium brown eggs with dark speckles, and an Easter egger that lays green eggs with medium brown speckles. If you sell eggs, folks will go gaga over those!
