I have been lurking for a while, and something occurred to me while reading through this forum.
I have seen several postings of well cared for birds coming down with egg laying problems like eyp, and internal laying. I saw one post where the diet was listed and I remembered that many foods like beets, and leafy greens are quite high in oxalic acid(sp?), which interferes with calcium uptake in the body. I just did a quick search, and there seems to be some interference with iron(one form) also, and oxalic acids combining with calcium or iron and causing kidney stones. I would like opinions from others with experience with chickens, does this seem like something that could cause problems, or no?
Thanks
