I've been keeping an eye on my chicks to see if any of them might turn out to be roosters. So far there is a BR that seems to have more red on it's face than the other one does, is that a sign? Also, Rick was asking me if any of them seem to have that spur that roosters get, but I haven't seen anything. Or is the spur just that back 'toe' that all the chickens have? Boy, so much that I don't know about chickies!

Even hens can have small spur bumps.

No that back toe is really a toe a spur will come from the inside of their legs.

This is my 2 year old Roosa and his spurs can be seen on the insides of his legs.

I've been watching my chicks for the same thing! They are almost 9 wks old now. So, when do they begin to grow their spurs, if they are roos?

Some of my month old chicks (hens and roos) have the bumps starting already.

It was like all of a sudden they just appeared on Roosa....lol
