I just finished my stainless waterer and thought I would share the design.
It was kind of a pain to drill through stainless, but worth the effort to me to avoid plastic. There are video on youtube on how to do it, but it took much longer than they showed! Maybe my drill bits were dull. I used the all stainless push in style nipples and the best price was on ebay. I used a rubber band to hold a doughnut shaped piece of red fleece on the nipple. Hopefully they will figure it out! Here's the cost breakdown:
3.5 gallon bucket: $44 http://www.shenandoahhomesteadsupply.com/?page_id=187
Nipples: $10
Scrap wood, screws and deck sealer: Free, because it was already here.
The only downside to the stainless is I hear acv will corrode it, so we'll have to figure out another way for them to get their acv. Also, make sure the nipples are level or they will leak.
