Just moved in to our new home. Waiting to get our fence up so we can start gardening and try our luck with a few laying hens. Looked around on this site and have some new ideas for our hen house!
No idea what kind of hens to get, how to care of them and what to feed them. I will be reading through the site to learn.
Very excited!

Congratulations on your new home and welcome to BYC. Study the forums, question away, plan and you will be successful in your poultry endeavor.

Hello :frow and Welcome To BYC! Congratulations on your new home! You might like to check out the BYC Learning Center, lots of good articles on all aspects of chicken keeping. https://www.backyardchickens.com/atype/1/Learning_Center also be sure to check out the BYC Breeds section for member reviews for a lot of breeds when you've narrowed down your choices. And here are a couple of charts that compare different breeds http://www.sagehenfarmlodi.com/chooks/chooks.html and http://www.albc-usa.org/documents/chickenbreedcomparison.pdf

Welcome to the world of chickens! And congrats on the new home! Nothing better than a house warming present of chickens! Kelsie has left you with all the good links to the learning center where there are lots of good reads on raising and keeping your new flock. And the breeds charts are great to get an idea on the attributes of the different breeds of chickens.

Enjoy this new adventure you are on and welcome to our flock!
