I've scoured the State Fair of Texas in Dallas web site and cannot find anything about any chickens other than broilers. Does anyone know anything about if/when there will be a chicken show at the State Fair of Texas this month? Thanks for any information.

the show is essentially Saturday and Sunday (Oct 15-16) with most of the judging action on Saturday. Birds coop out about 3 pm Sunday. We technically cannot have sales at the fair, but there will be plenty of opportunities to connect with breeders and other area backyarders to make arrangements for getting a few hens.

The entry deadline has passed, but just as a reminder, the State Fair of Texas poultry show will be on the weekend of October 15-16, 2011. If you will be just visiting, Saturday is probably the best day, as that is when all the judging will take place. The birds will be there until mid-afternoon on Sunday, but once coop-out starts you will be amazed at how fast the barn empties out!

We have somewhere around 550 entries, including the full range of poultry - large chickens, bantam chickens, ducks, geese, and guinea fowl.

This year we also have some vendor presence courtesy of Randall Burkey Company (poultry supplies) and Purina Mills, so watch for some new "stuff" set up in the poultry barn.
