Just wondering if it's normal for chickens to prefer staying in the coop? Mine are 7 weeks been in the coop for 2 weeks- weather has varied, sometimes cold sometimes very nice, like today- I notice my chickens rarely come into the run and when they do it's because I am out their talking to them- as soon as they hear me they come running, but soon after I leave they return to the coop-

The run is sand, so not much to dig at and their food and water is inside the coop, do you think this could be why? I am putting in piles of leaves every couple of days and they do like that. they seem to prefer in inside dust bathing in shavings etc.

It may sound cruel but when mine diddnt want to "come out to play" I kicked them out of the coop and closed it for a while. It was a great day and they were in a safe area. They do fine now.
