So I gave my GF 3 hens, and her favorite one, Stewie- after Tony Stewart her favorite Nascar driver, woke us up this morning with "her" crowing. GF wasnt having it, so we got up, put Stewie in a box and went to Moms house. Well, Mom is a old-school farmgirl thru and thru, so needless to say I now know how to butcher and clean a chicken, and cute little Stewie, a silver-laced wyanndotte, is about to go into the crockpot. S(he) looks very tasty, and it was one heck of an experience.

Are you absolutely SURE it was a roo. Some hens become dominant if there is no rooster and will crow.r

I saw it crowing, it had huge comb and wattles, and Mom said it had rooster parts when she cleaned it. I know hens can be dominate and loud, but I dont think they give the classic cock-a-doodle-do crow, do they? Either way she couldnt have it crowing in her backyard, and she comes from a farming family, so Stewie is stewing.
